I suppose the first experience I had of gambling was going to the races, when I was in my early teens with my family, but this was just clearly fun, and nothing at this time formed any addictive behaviour.
While I was working in the mines we as a group of young men would play poker on the weekends, this again was fun and we all yearned for this fun but it was not addictive.
I then started to work away from home and while I was not working I started gambling in the bookmakers on the horses, this was more of a time killer than anything, and this is when I first felt the need to gamble.
I moved onto other jobs and started to gamble more frequently.
About 1995 I actually became aware of my need to gamble.
But this I still thought was fun and did not feel addicted to it in anyway. I then went overseas to work and I did not have the opportunity to gamble and did not bother for about two years but when I went on leave, I did gamble, this again was taken as fun.
I then went to Taiwan and started to gamble over the internet because gambling was not allowed there, but this again was only for limited time and for relatively small amounts of money.
I then got back to the UK and I decided to make my living by gambling this is when the gambling actually became serious, this was in the year 2002.
I know thought I will make my living this way.
I started gambling on all sports and horses and played big time even sometimes up to 12 hours per day, I soon lost all my savings and then I decided to move away to work on a job in the UK.
But I DID NOT leave the gambling behind me and I re-mortgaged my house and borrowed another £72,000 pounds on the property and another £10,000 with a personal loan.
I soon lost all this including my monthly salary.
